In my career as a presentation specialist for a major hospital advocacy association, I’ve seen first-hand the proliferation and reliance on presentations to effectively communicate, educate, inform, and persuade audiences on a variety of topics, including patient care, public health, and policy. Presentations are a critical asset in communications in the healthcare industry. Whether you are a doctor, nurse, administrator, researcher, or advocate, you will likely need to give presentations at some point in your career. Here are some tips to help you create a successful presentation geared toward health care audiences.

  • It is important to keep what audience you’re presenting to in mind. What are their areas of interest and experience? What baseline do they have about your topic? Presenting health care policy is very different than educating an audience primarily focused on improving quality and patient safety. Context matters. Tailor your presentation and data to your audience and make sure that your message is clear and concise.
  • Consider using assertions/evidence as a headline. It’s common for technical professionals to use an assertion-evidence slide. In this type of slide, the heading is no more than two lines, that states the slides assertion. In communications, we call this Bottom-Line Up Front (BLUF). A great presenter leads the audience to their conclusions using this persuasive method.
  • Keep the visuals simple. What truly needs to be visualized and what needs to be spoken? A great presentation should accentuate the speaker, it should emphasize facts, data points and other information. Typically, it’s better to have more slides than jamming all your information onto a few congested slides.
  • Avoid, if possible, turning your presentation into a Slide-ument, or slides as documents. Generally, presentation slides aren’t meant to be documentation. The point of a presentation isn’t to duplicate what the speaker is saying. Save that for documents, one-pagers, or a notes document.
  • Use less bullets or avoid bullets if you can. There are many ways to visualize this information without using bullets. Check out Nolan Haim’s The Better Deck Deck or search for bullet alternatives for some inspiration.
  • Consider hiring a Professional Presentation Designer to help you create a well-designed slide deck and presentation template.

What is a Professionally Designed Presentation Template?

A professionally designed presentation template is a pre-made set of slides that can be customized to meet your specific needs and branding guidelines. Templates typically include a variety of design elements, such as fonts, color themes, and graphics, as well as layouts for different types of slides, such as title slides, content slides, and call-to-action slides.

How Can a Professionally Designed Presentation Template Make Your Healthcare Presentation More Engaging?

There are several ways that a professionally designed presentation template can make your healthcare presentation more engaging: Templates can help you create a more…

  • visually appealing presentation. When your presentation is visually appealing, it is more likely to capture and hold your audience’s attention.
  • organized and easy-to-follow presentation. A well-organized presentation will make it easier for your audience to understand your message.
  • persuasive presentation. When your presentation is well-designed, it will make your message more believable and memorable.

The Benefits of Hiring a Professional Presentation Designer

If you are looking to create a professional and engaging healthcare presentation, you may want to consider hiring a professional presentation designer. A designer can help you create a presentation that is tailored to your specific needs and audience.

Here are some of the benefits of hiring a professional presentation designer:

  • Expertise: Designers have the expertise and experience to create presentations that are both visually appealing and effective. They know how to use color, typography, and graphics to create a presentation that is both visually appealing and easy to understand.
  • Time savings: Designing a presentation can be time-consuming, especially if you’re not familiar with the latest design software. A designer can help you create a presentation in a fraction of the time it would take you to do it yourself.

Here are some additional tips for creating effective healthcare presentations:

  • Keep your audience in mind. What are their needs and interests? What do they already know about your topic?
  • Be clear and concise. Don’t overload your audience with too much information. Save those details for a handout or notes page (JQS Creative can also help with that)
  • Use visuals to support your message. Images, charts, and graphs can help to make your presentation more engaging and memorable.
  • Practice your presentation beforehand. This will help you to feel more confident and deliver your message more effectively.

By following these tips, you can create healthcare presentations that are both informative and persuasive.
