HOW TO Always open Microsoft Shared DOC Links in the App

Recently, I had shared an Office document link with a client for their review. I sent them a shared link via email, expecting it to open in the online version of PowerPoint. Little did I know that they were frustrated it didn’t open in the desktop app! 😅

I get it, while Microsoft Online is a great tool, it lacks some very powerful features found in the desktop app only. Personally, I prefer to have all of shared document links open directly in the app.

So how do you automatically open these shared links in the desktop app? 🤔

The solution is quick and easy, but it’s not an obvious one. You just need to make a small change to your settings. Check out below to discover how.

On Windows

• Select the File menu at the top left
• Select Options
  [or press ALT+F, T]
• Select the
  Advanced tab
• Scroll down and make sure the the Link Handling checkbox is activated (see below figure)
